New Mexico Police Unions Sue Over New DA Policy
HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Unions representing Hobbs and Carlsbad police officers have sued District Attorney Janetta Hicks, asking a Carlsbad district judge to stop Hicks from requiring officers to prosecute misdemeanors.

An instructor at the Connecticut Police Academy was arrested on charges that he bit a co-worker. State police said the instructor was accused of taking a woman literally when she allegedly told him sarcastically to "bite me." Court documents show that the instructor chomped on the woman's arm, leaving teeth marks and bruising.
The 51-year-old man was arraigned Tuesday on charges of disorderly conduct and second-degree reckless endangerment.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is refusing to release the arrest report of a man who claims he was punched by a decorated policeman after he filmed officers kicking another man.
Earlier this month, The Gazette uncovered a federal civil rights lawsuit filed against the city and Officer Peter Tomitsch by Marc Johnson, a Colorado Springs man who claims he was the victim of police brutality.
Johnson was arrested for resisting arrest in the October 2008 incident.

NELSON, NY - The Morrisville State College police officer who was charged with shoplifting several pastries from a local convenience store last year must retire within six months under a court agreement that allows him to avoid a criminal conviction.

By implicating a man for a crime he did not commit in order to cover up for accidentally firing his weapon, a former Leoni Township police officer hurt more than himself and the wrongly accused man.
